Ryan Carmona, PT, GCS, NCS

Ryan Carmona, PT, GCS, NCS is a Neuro-IFRAH® Specialist, Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® and Faculty member of the Neuro-
IFRAH® Center in La Jolla, CA. He works closely with Waleed Al-Oboudi, MOT, OTR, the originator of the Neuro-
Integrative Functional Rehabilitation and Habilitation (Neuro-IFRAH®) in the treatment and management of adults with
hemiplegia from a Stroke and Brain Injury in the Neuro-IFRAH® Center in La Jolla, CA. Ryan received intensive training
for Instructorship and is in continued advanced clinical mentorship under Waleed Al-Oboudi. He teaches Neuro-IFRAH®
courses with the author nationwide and internationally. He is recognized as a Geriatric Certified Specialist and
Neurologic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He has vast experience in the
consultation and treatment of adults with hemiplegia from a Stroke and Brain Injury in Acute and Inpatient
Rehabilitation, Outpatient, Home Care and Skilled Nursing Facilities. Ryan is also the pioneer of EXCEED Seminars and
Workshop offering Introductory to Advanced Neuro-IFRAH® courses and works with Neuro-IFRAH® Specialist-treated
private clientele in the US and internationally.

   Amer de Juan, OTD(C),OTR/L, HTC,PAM

Amer de Juan, OTD(C),OTR/L,HTC,PAM is a certified Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® in San Francisco, CA. Amer  received
intensive training for instructorship under Waleed Al-Oboudi, MOT, OTR,  the originator of the Neuro-IFRAH®
approach. He continues to attend advanced Neuro-IFRAH®  courses with  Mr. Al-Oboudi, and continues to be mentored
by the originator of the Neuro-IFRAH® approach.  Amer first met Mr. Al-Oboudi in 1992 at a continuing education course
(where Mr. Al-Oboudi was one of the instructors) in San Francisco, CA - from then on Amer has become interested in
Mr. Al-Oboudi’s concepts  such that he completed the Neuro-IFRAH® Instructor training, as well as intermediate to
advanced Neuro-IFRAH® courses with Mr. Waleed Al-Oboudi himself.

Amer received his B.S.  in  Occupational Therapy (accelerated program) from San Jose State University, and his A.S. in
Occupational Therapy (accelerated program, Highest Honors) from Sacramento City College. He is completing his Post-
Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (O.T.D.) degree from Creighton University. Amer is licensed by the
California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT) to be Advanced Practice Approved in Hand Therapy (HTC) and
Advanced Practice Approved in Physical Agent Modalities (PAM).  He has a vast experience in a variety of therapeutic
settings of patient care; including trauma, intensive care, acute, sub-acute, transitional care, and long term care, home
health care, out patient settings, education and management/administration. Amer established San Francisco
Neurorehabilitation (SFNR) in 2007, a private  practice in occupational therapy that uses the Neuro-IFRAH® approach for
adults with hemiplegia from a stroke or brain injury. He also established Amer de Juan Therapy Services in 2008 which
provides Home Health services in Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapies, Nutrition/Dietary, and Social Work  in the
San Francisco Bay Area.

Introduction to the Neuro-Integrative Functional Rehabilitation And Habilitation
(NEURO-IFRAH®) Approach in the Treatment and Management of Adults with
Hemiplegia from a Stroke or Brain Injury

Course Description
This two day course is designed to provide participants with an introduction to the
Neuro-IFRAH® principles of management and a practical application of these principles
to increase function. Participants will be able to apply the information learned in a
variety of treatment settings including acute care, inpatient and outpatient
rehabilitation, home care, and skilled nursing facilities.

This course will consist of interactive lecture and hands on lab. Lab sessions will
emphasize the development of patient handling skills through working with other
participants. Information will be shared by lecture, lab and possibly using video or
other visual aids.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.        Identify the basic principles of management of the Neuro-IFRAH® approach.
2.        Identify handling guidelines related to the the Neuro-IFRAH® approach.
3.        Identify concepts related to the framework for normal movement.
4.        Differentiate between normal and abnormal movement in function.
5.        Identify the missing components of movement that are interfering with patients’
abilities to function at a higher level.
6.        Apply handling techniques to help attain the missing components of movement
that are interfering with functioning at higher levels.
7.        Integrate concepts related to normal movement, principles of management,
handling guidelines, and handling techniques into ADLs and other functional activities.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be Neuro-IFRAH Trained®.
